What is Trash Running about?
Trash Running is a social plogging group started in Shanghai: we focus on contributing to our society and environment while also being active. What we do: organize weekly runs in various locations, and we pick up the trash we see on the roads.
Are Trash Running activities free of charge?
Our regular weekday evening events are free of charge. For some of the weekend events we charge a small fee, usually for purchasing insurance and refreshments.
How can I join?
If you are in Shanghai, you can join our weekly evening runs on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (subject to WeChat mini-program). Find meeting times and locations on the event registration page. We also post about our weekend events in the official account. If you have any questions, message us!
When? Where? How long?
Regular distance is 5-7KM, about one hour including gathering, warm-up, plogging, and stretching. Find meeting times and locations on the mini-program registration page.
How should I prepare for the trash run?
Please bring an old/used trash bag, water, and wear comfortable, sporty clothes and running shoes.
How can I know if the event is on or cancelled?
In case the weather or air quality doesn't allow, the activity will be canceled. The latest updates are announced in the WeChat groups 2 hours before the start.
What kind of trash do you pick up? How do you deal with the trash afterwards?
During the trash run, we focus on collecting recyclable waste, and avoid picking up any dangerous/harmful/heavy items. After the trash run, we separate the collected waste into recyclable and non-recyclable categories and dispose of it properly.
Can I join if I never run before?
Yes, If you are joining us for the first time, we suggest you join the "regular" group.
Do you have Trash Running groups in other cities as well?
We currently have activities in Shanghai, Beijing, Changchun, Chongqing, Qingdao, and Wuhan. If you have any questions, please contact us at info@trashrunning.com
How can I get the TRC team T-shirt?
You can purchase through the WeChat official account menu under "More Info > Team Apparel". Since T-shirt customization requires a minimum quantity, you can pre-order first, and we will place the order once we reach the required quantity. Delivery usually takes 2-5 weeks.
How can I become a team leader?
Our team leaders come from different backgrounds and professions, we are all connected by the values we share. We believe that being a team leader is an honor, and is also a responsibility. All of us contribute our time, effort and work every day, to make the Trash Running activities meaningful and impactful. If you want to commit, speak to us in person at any of the events to see whether you fit in our team!
